I capi principali: shirt, T-shirt, jumper, trousers, jeans, skirt, dress, jacket, coat. I verbi: wear = indossare, put on = mettersi, take off = togliersi, get dressed = vestirsi.
I capi principali
| Inglese | Italiano | Inglese | Italiano |
|---|---|---|---|
| shirt | camicia | trousers (US: pants) | pantaloni |
| T-shirt | maglietta | jeans | jeans |
| jumper / sweater | maglione | shorts | pantaloncini |
| sweatshirt / hoodie | felpa / felpa con cappuccio | skirt | gonna |
| jacket | giacca | dress | vestito (da donna) |
| coat | cappotto | suit | abito, completo |
| raincoat | impermeabile | pyjamas | pigiama |
| underwear / pants (UK) | biancheria / mutande | socks | calzini |
Scarpe e accessori
| Scarpe | Italiano | Accessori | Italiano |
|---|---|---|---|
| shoes | scarpe | hat / cap | cappello / berretto |
| trainers (US: sneakers) | scarpe da ginnastica | scarf | sciarpa |
| boots | stivali | gloves | guanti |
| sandals | sandali | belt | cintura |
| slippers | pantofole | tie | cravatta |
| high heels | tacchi alti | bag / handbag | borsa |
Sempre plurali: a pair of
| Corretto | Sbagliato | Per contarli |
|---|---|---|
| My trousers are black. | My trouser is black. | a pair of trousers |
| These jeans are new. | This jeans is new. | two pairs of jeans |
| Where are my shorts? | Where is my short? | a pair of shorts |
| I need new pyjamas. | a new pyjama | a pair of pyjamas |
Wear, put on, take off, get dressed
| Verbo | Italiano | Esempio |
|---|---|---|
| wear | indossare, portare (stato) | She's wearing a blue dress. |
| put on | mettersi (azione) | Put on your coat! |
| take off | togliersi | Take off your shoes, please. |
| get dressed / undressed | vestirsi / spogliarsi | I get dressed in five minutes. |
| try on | provare (in negozio) | Can I try these jeans on? |
| fit / suit | andare bene (taglia) / stare bene | It fits perfectly. That colour suits you. |
| change | cambiarsi | I need to change before dinner. |
Falsi amici dell'abbigliamento
| Parola | In inglese significa | Per dire la cosa italiana |
|---|---|---|
| slip | sottoveste | pants, briefs, knickers (mutande) |
| smoking | il fumare | dinner jacket (UK), tuxedo (US) |
| body | corpo | bodysuit |
| footing | appoggio, equilibrio | jogging |
