Indicazioni stradali in inglese – chiedere e dare indicazioni

“Scusi, dov'è la stazione?” in inglese diventa Excuse me, could you tell me where the station is?, con il verbo in fondo. E la risposta arriva veloce: go straight on, take the second left, it's opposite the bank.

Risposta breve

Per chiedere: Excuse me, how do I get to…? o Could you tell me where the… is? (verbo in fondo). Per dare indicazioni: go straight on, turn left / right, take the first / second left, go past (supera), it's on your left. Per la posizione: next to, opposite, between, on the corner of. E se non capisci: Sorry, could you say that again?

IngleseItaliano
Excuse me, how do I get to the station?Scusi, come arrivo alla stazione?
Could you tell me where the museum is?Mi saprebbe dire dov'è il museo?
Is there a pharmacy near here?C'è una farmacia qui vicino?
Am I going the right way for the beach?
Is it far? / Can I walk there?È lontano? / Ci posso andare a piedi?
I'm lost. Could you help me?Mi sono perso. Mi può aiutare?
💡
Il verbo va in fondo. In una domanda diretta: Where is the museum? Dopo Could you tell me… o Do you know… la frase torna affermativa: Could you tell me where the museum is?

Dare indicazioni

IngleseItaliano
Go straight on (UK) / straight ahead (US).Vada sempre dritto.
Turn left / right.Giri a sinistra / a destra.
Take the first left / the second right.Prenda la prima a sinistra / la seconda a destra.
Go past the church.Superi la chiesa.
Go along this road until you reach the lights.Segua questa strada fino al semaforo.
Cross the road / the bridge.Attraversi la strada / il ponte.
At the roundabout, take the second exit.Alla rotonda, prenda la seconda uscita.
It's on your left / right.È sulla sua sinistra / destra.

Le indicazioni si danno con l'imperativo, che in inglese è semplicemente il verbo senza soggetto: turn, go, take, cross. Per rendere la sequenza chiara si usano first, then, after that, when you get to…: First go straight on, then turn left at the lights.

Dov'è? Le preposizioni di posizione

IngleseItalianoEsempio
next toaccanto aIt's next to the bank.
opposite (UK) / across from (US)di fronte aIt's opposite the station.
betweentraIt's between the café and the bakery.
on the corner ofall'angolo diIt's on the corner of King Street.
at the end ofin fondo aIt's at the end of the road.
behind / in front ofdietro / davanti aThe car park is behind the hotel.

IngleseItalianoIngleseItaliano
traffic lightssemaforocrossroads (UK) / intersection (US)incrocio
roundaboutrotondapedestrian crossingstrisce pedonali
car park (UK) / parking lot (US)parcheggiopetrol station / gas stationdistributore
chemist's (UK) / pharmacyfarmaciatown hallmunicipio
squarepiazzaunderground station / subway stationstazione della metro
pavement (UK) / sidewalk (US)marciapiedeblock (US)isolato

Il semaforo è sempre al plurale: the traffic lights o semplicemente the lights (turn left at the lights).

Distanze e tempi

IngleseItaliano
It's about five minutes' walk.Sono circa cinque minuti a piedi.
It's a ten-minute drive.Sono dieci minuti in macchina.
It's just round the corner.È proprio dietro l'angolo.
It's two blocks from here. (US)È a due isolati da qui.
It's about half a mile.È a circa 800 metri.
It's too far to walk. You'd better get a bus.È troppo lontano a piedi, meglio prendere un autobus.

IngleseItaliano
Sorry, could you say that again?Scusi, può ripetere?
Could you speak a bit more slowly, please?Può parlare un po' più lentamente?
So, left at the lights and then the second right?
Could you show me on the map?Me lo può mostrare sulla mappa?
Thanks a lot, that's really helpful!

Domande frequenti sulle indicazioni stradali in inglese

Excuse me, could you tell me where the station is? oppure Excuse me, how do I get to the station? Nella domanda indiretta (could you tell me…) il verbo va in fondo: where the station is, non where is the station.

Come si dice “sempre dritto” in inglese?

Go straight on (UK) o go straight ahead (US). Non si dice go always straight.

Come si dice “la seconda a destra”?

Take the second right o take the second turning on the right (UK). Per “gira a destra” basta turn right.

Negli Stati Uniti le distanze in città si misurano in blocks (isolati): It's two blocks from here. Nel Regno Unito si usa di più It's the second street on the left o It's about five minutes' walk.

Opposite (UK) o across from (US): The bank is opposite the post office. Davanti a (in front of) è diverso: indica che una cosa è proprio davanti all'altra, non dall'altra parte della strada.

Cosa dire se non capisco le indicazioni?

Sorry, could you say that again, please? / Could you speak a bit more slowly? / So, I go straight on and then turn left?

Per chiedere: Excuse me, how do I get to…? o Could you tell me where the… is?, con il verbo in fondo. Per rispondere: go straight on, turn left, take the second right, go past…. Per la posizione: next to, opposite, between, on the corner of. Il semaforo è the lights, a piedi è on foot. Inizia dall'esercizio 1.
