Un'email in inglese ha cinque parti: oggetto chiaro, saluto (Dear Ms Jones, / Hi Tom,), motivo (I'm writing to…), richiesta o informazione in frasi brevi e chiusura (I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards,). Per gli allegati: Please find attached. Per chiedere con gentilezza: Could you…? / I'd be grateful if….
| Parte | Esempio |
|---|---|
| Oggetto (Subject) | Meeting on 14 March – agenda |
| Saluto | Dear Ms Jones, |
| Motivo | I'm writing to confirm our meeting next Thursday. |
| Dettagli / richiesta | Could you let me know if 10 am works for you? |
| Chiusura | I look forward to hearing from you. |
| Firma | Kind regards, Marco Rossi |
Saluti iniziali e finali
| Registro | Apertura | Chiusura |
|---|---|---|
| Molto formale | Dear Sir or Madam, | Yours faithfully, (UK) |
| Formale | Dear Mr Smith, / Dear Ms Jones, | Kind regards, / Yours sincerely, |
| Neutro (lavoro) | Dear Anna, / Hello Anna, | Best regards, / Best wishes, |
| Informale | Hi Tom, / Hi everyone, | Best, / Thanks, / Cheers, (UK) |
Frasi di apertura
| Inglese | Italiano |
|---|---|
| I'm writing to ask about / to confirm… | Le scrivo per chiedere / confermare… |
| I'm writing with regard to your order. | Le scrivo in merito al suo ordine. |
| Thank you for your email of 2 May. |
| Further to our phone call, … | Facendo seguito alla nostra telefonata, … |
| I hope you're well. / I hope you had a good weekend. | Spero che stia bene. / Spero abbia passato un buon weekend. |
I'm writing to…
Chiedere, allegare, sollecitare, scusarsi
| Funzione | Frasi |
|---|---|
| Chiedere | Could you send me…? / I'd be grateful if you could… / Would it be possible to…? |
| Allegare | Please find attached… / I've attached… / I'm attaching… |
| Informare | I'd like to let you know that… / Just a quick note to say… |
| Sollecitare | Just following up on my email of… / I was wondering if you'd had a chance to… |
| Scusarsi | I apologise for the delay. / Sorry for the late reply. |
| Proporre | Would Tuesday at 3 pm suit you? / How about a call next week? |
Le richieste si fanno quasi sempre con could e would (vedi verbi modali). Please do the following o You must send suonano come ordini, anche se in italiano “deve inviare” è normale.
Frasi di chiusura
| Inglese | Italiano |
|---|---|
| I look forward to hearing from you. | In attesa di un suo riscontro. |
| Please let me know if you have any questions. | Resto a disposizione per qualsiasi domanda. |
| Thanks in advance for your help. | Grazie in anticipo per l'aiuto. |
| Please don't hesitate to contact me. | Non esiti a contattarmi. |
| Speak soon. / Have a great weekend! | A presto. / Buon fine settimana! |
Attenzione a look forward to: dopo to si usa il verbo in -ing: I look forward to hearing, non to hear (vedi gerundio o infinito). I'm looking forward to… è un po' meno formale.
Formale o informale?
| Formale | Informale |
|---|---|
| I am writing to inform you that… | Just a quick email to say… |
| I would be grateful if you could… | Could you…? |
| Please find attached the report. | Here's the report. |
| I apologise for any inconvenience. | Sorry about that! |
| I look forward to hearing from you. | Speak soon! / Let me know! |
Dear Ms Taylor,
I'm writing to ask about your evening English courses for adults. I'm an Italian engineer and I'd like to improve my business English before starting a new job in March.
Could you tell me if there are any places left on the B2 course, and how much it costs? I've attached my latest level test result.
Thank you in advance for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Marco Rossi
|---|---|---|
| I write you for… | I'm writing to… | Present continuous + to |
| In attach you find the file. | Please find attached the file. | Formula fissa |
| I look forward to hear from you. | …to hearing from you. | To + -ing |
| Dear Mr John, | Dear Mr Smith, / Dear John, | Mr + cognome |
| Distinct greetings, | Kind regards, | Calco |
| I remain at your disposal. | Please let me know if you have any questions. | Più naturale |
| I send you the document. | I'm sending you / I've attached the document. | Tempo verbale |

Domande frequenti sulle email in inglese
Please find attached… (formale), I've attached… o I'm attaching… (neutro).
Just following up on my email of 3 March. / I was wondering if you'd had a chance to look at… / I'd be grateful if you could get back to me by Friday.
